Swimming headphones

Had an interesting conversation the other day that I wanted to share. Me and a few coworkers where sitting down talking about exercise when someone mentioned that he used to swim for his college team.  Everyone agreed that swimming is a great way to exercise, great for the heart and low impact on the joints.  The reason he stopped was it was so boring to do.  It’s easy to go on a run and have time quickly pass by with TV, iPod and outdoor scenery.  But with swimming, its just lap after lap until you are done. .  Personally I agree, without some headphones or distraction, I lose focus and cant wait till its finally over.

Someone mentioned that there are some options…How bout this one, its an aftermarket iPod mini solution that is waterproof casing and headphones. From what I have read, these solution void the warranty and for the most part don’t work that well.  When you are swimming, the last thing you want is to have a MP3 player attached to your speedo or to try and fiddle with buttons as you turn for your next lap.  Some high end fitness clubs and pools have underwater speakers that pipe music in so you can hear as you swim.  But these places are usually pretty pricy.

I am thinking of a new solution.  How bout an adaptation of the Oakley sunglass MP3 Player (see the picture above).  These sunglasses are a great example of innovation as Oakley created a mini MP3 player with integrated headphones in one of its stylish frames.  Here is the idea, change the lenses into swimming goggles.  Obviously the hard part is waterproofing the rest of the unit including earbuds.  But with no wires this could be a swimmers dream. What do you think?
