I have been hearing more and more about Elderly getting involved in video and virtual gaming. Here is one example on Gizmodo of elderly playing bowling on Wii’s even going as far as creating Bowling Tournaments across the entire elderly home.
It makes a lot of sense, the elder tend to have: time and money making them a perfect target for video gaming companies.
One idea would be to create more games that are focused on improving or maintaining the physical and mental health of the elderly. Something similar to what Dr.Kawashima has created to keep brains ‘nimble’. Games that encourage the slow yet full range of motions, helping the elderly stay somewhat active, flexible, and mobile. Or games that allow them to relive certain experiences, like a car-mechanic game or a game that allows them to “raise-a-child” tending to their needs and helping them grow.
These are just a few ideas, but overall the concept of activating this market even further is something I find very interesting.
