Ni hao, greetings from Beijing!

ChaiHey! I’m Chai (to the left is a photo of me with my wee cousin). Dave and I met at Northeastern University, since then we’ve remained friends and have decided to have me contribute to incuTANK.

Me in a nutshell: 22 years old, born and raised in Rockland County, NY, graduated from Northeastern University in December 2006, moved to NYC and was an internal audit consultant for a year, found out ticking and tying and constantly bugging people for documents wasn’t for me. Thus, I embarked upon my journey to Beijing. Before this, the most Chinese thing I did was order Chinese take out and watch Rush Hour.

My journey in a nutshell: When I realized that I wasn’t quite ready to be a yuppie (young urban professional), I decided to turn my life upside down. I wasn’t quite ready to hit the trail and take off to Africa, so I found an opportunity with an NGO (Wokai) based in Oakland with operations in Beijing. I signed up and here I am.

WokaiWokai in a nutshell: a capital-contributing microfinance intermediary – raising loan capital for MFIs in China. It is an internet platform that allows individual contributors to provide microentrepreneurs with loan capital. There are 7 of us on the ground in Beijing working for free. We are driven by our passion.

I’m looking forward to guiding you along my journey!
